Website Bio
A massive dose of gamma radiation transformed the brilliant scientist Dr. Bruce Banner into the jade giant known as the Hulk.
Biography
Not much is known about Bruce Banner's past, though it is known he originally dreamed of being a librarian when he was a child. When he grew older, he went to "grad school" in New Mexico. During his time there, he became acquainted with fellow student, Monica Rappaccini, who he regarded as one of the greatest minds he'd ever met. Afterwards, he received a doctorate specializing in Gamma Radiation.
Several months later, Banner was transformed into a human mutate during an experiment with gamma radiation. Under high amounts of physical or mental stress, he would turn into a giant green humanoid being with enhanced strength, durability and a separate but more aggressive personality, which many dubbed "the Hulk". Banner saw the Hulk as a curse and would transform even in the most normal of situations, such as airplane flights, and sometimes would not be able to determine which was in charge. Hoping to get rid of his alter ego, he worked to investigate Hulk about what triggered him and whether he could do so.
At some point, Banner joined a team called the Avengers, though it is unclear whether it was for use of the Hulk or as a consultant for them. As a member, he worked alongside Captain America, Iron Man, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Ant-Man, Thor, and Captain Marvel. Through the team's allies in SHIELD, Banner was able to gain access to resources that allowed him to further investigate Hulk and what caused his transformations. He was also able to gain control of the "big guy", leading to his use on missions.
Due to his association with SHIELD and Stark Industries, Banner was contacted by Rappaccini, who was now a member of a small scientific organization called Advanced Idea Mechanics (AIM). Hoping to improve their resources to investigate a recently discovered substance, he helped them convince the two companies to fund their experiments. During this time, Banner asked Monica out for coffee, only for her to up the stakes by asking him to dinner. This eventually resulted in them beginning a romantic relationship. With Monica's help, Bruce was able to improve his investigations of the Hulk, though he intended simply to get rid of "the other guy" rather than control it.
Road to A-Day
Events of MA: Iron Man
When one of SHIELD's facilities were attacked by the Lethal Legion, Hulk was among the Avengers to respond to the attack. During the fight, he battled Absorbing Man, though was held off due to the villain absorbing the Odinforce. Hulk was used by Iron Man to knock out Titania, simply by hitting her into him. With the team defeated, he helped round up the group for imprisonment.
Banner was later seen at SHIELD's New York Lab and Secure facility, where he ran tests on pulsar emissions. Whilst Stark investigated it for a potential leak, he confront the billionaire on his use of Hulk without given them prior warning, pointing out that it lacked teamwork with them. He also brushed off attempts to talk about his relationship with Monica, which Stark was using to try to change the subject. When Tony revealed his knowledge of surveillance equipment within the facility and was running a scan, Banner lost his temper for talking about it opening, though quickly learned Stark had to tell him so he could continue. Regaining his posture, he quickly covered up the outburst and allowed him to continue. These efforts later help Stark learn about Spymaster's presence.
Events of MA: Thor
In an effort to increase their maneuverability around the world, Banner and Stark worked on creating a prototype portal technology. Asking Thor to help power it with the Odinforce, they set up a test at the Maria Stark Fields and successfully activated it. However, when Banner noticed energy levels spiking, the device was destroyed. As they wondered what had happened, the others checked on him to make sure Hulk was not coming out.
As they talked about alternative, the conversation began to escalate into an argument. Unknown to everyone, Thor's brother Loki was present and was influencing them into it. As he argued with the Asgardian about the Odinforce's powers, Banner lost control and transformed into the Hulk. This led to a fight between the two that spread to the streets of Brooklyn. Eventually, Thor noticed Loki in the storm he had conjured and revealed him to Hulk. This convinced him to stand down and later transform back to Banner.
After handing Loki over to Odin, they met with Tony to discuss the events. Despite Thor's assurance that his brother would be punished, Banner worried about the damage they'd done and how the Avengers would be blamed for the fight. As the Asgardian brushed off his concerns, Bruce confronted him on potential harm to civilians, though this was also brushed off. Eventually, Thor convinced them to drink for the celebration, though Banner was disappointed to once again hear about his fight with the Midgard Serpent.
Events of MA: Hulk
Some time during or after these, Bruce and Monica investigated the Hulk's transformations. After a session, they were able to find a way of calming him, leading to him returning to regular form. As they discussed the results, Bruce refused to consider Monica's suggestions to control the Hulk, even threatening to end their relationship unless she helped rid of it. Leaving the lab, Banner met with Tarleton, who asked him to look at his readings for energy magnification. Tired and in no mood to do so, Bruce politely refused to get some rest, promising to do so in a couple of weeks.
When Tarleton decided to run the experiment anyway, Bruce was in the lab's vicinity. When energy from it broke out, he witnessed it attack two nearby guards and merge them into a being of pure electricity. As it attacked him, Banner was saved by Monica placing it in a Containment Unit. As it broke free, Bruce told her to run as it attacked him, triggering a transformation into the Hulk. Aggressed by the monster, Hulk fought against it, spilling outside of the facility onto the nearby pier. On instinct, he knocked the creature into the water, causing a massive electrical burst that seemingly killed it.
Banner later washed up on the beach front, where he was reassured by Monica. Taken to the medical bay, Bruce was met by Tony, who told him how the fight had caused most the Eastern Seaboard to lose electrical power. As their meeting came to an end, he told Tony how he only remembered flashes of the incident and concerns that he was loosing control of Hulk. As Monica arrived, Stark reassured him and left to give them some privacy.
Events of MA: The Extinction Key
Events of Marvel's Avengers
A-Day
Banner was among the Avengers members available to celebrate the Avengers Day event. He spent the night before with Monica, who disappeared before he awoke that morning. During the event, Bruce checked the Terrigen reactor, where he noticed fluctuating readings. Searching for Tarleton, he discovered him and Monica discussing something in private. As he greeted George, he suggested he took a look at the readings before they went up on stage. Banner was among the Avengers present during the main event.
When a series of explosions occurred along the Golden Gate Bridge, Banner and Romanoff were deployed to respond. Taking the Quinjet, they arrived left shortly before the Chimera's emergency protocols kicked in, though continued to respond to the situation. When the mercenaries unveiled Pulsar Tanks, Banner, despite wanting to return to help Rogers on the helicarrier, transformed into the Hulk to deal with them. Rampaging across the bridge, he dealt with the mercenaries and the weapons.
When Taskmaster arrived and unveiled a Sonic Bomb, Hulk helped hold the bridge together whilst Widow chased after Masters. After she disabled them, the group realized that it had distracted them from the situation on the Chimera. Hulk watched in shock as San Francisco began to fall apart amidst an unexplained earthquake and the helicarrier crashed into the bay, taking Rogers down with it.
After A-Day
After A-Day, the surviving Avengers were forced to face the US congress to talk about their actions. Though the others retained their composure, Bruce, possibly through Monica's influence, decided to testify that they did pose a threat to civilians. This action was damning to the team, leading them to disband and for some, including Stark, to blame him for their fallout. Some time during or after the hearings, Bruce and Monica broke up.
Some time after the hearings, Bruce and Hulk started having trouble with SHIELD, which at one point led to him turning into the Hulk and attacking a few SHIELD agents. Motivated to go into hiding, Hulk retreated to the decommisioned remains of The Chimera, taking Captain America's shield with him. Over time, Hulk began taking control, with Banner seemingly spending more time as "the Big Guy" rather than himself. At some point, the Resistance came to the Chimera, only for Hulk to presumably scare them off.
Reassembling the Avengers
Five years after A-Day, Kamala Khan visited the Chimera, hoping that the Resistance were using it as a base. After she found and picked up Captain America's shield, Hulk, having been in the nearby area, learned of her presence. Believing her to be a thief, he chased Kamala through the helicarrier and eventually cornered her. Taking back the shield, Hulk left her to presumably return it to its original place. Shortly afterward, he returned to fight AIM Synthoids sent after Khan, helping her fight off. During the fight, Kamala had passed out and the Hulk jumped in to protect her, presumably defeating the rest.
Eventually, Hulk transformed back into Banner, who took the unconscious Kamala to the Science Lab and obtained a sample of her blood. When she retained consciousness, they properly introduced themselves whilst he began testing the sample, where he learned she was an Inhuman. As he asked her why AIM was tracking her, Kamala showed Bruce seemingly corrupted video footage she obtained from AIM's servers, which showed Tarleton sealing Captain America in the reactor room. Skeptical of George's intentions and reluctant to help her, Banner tried to suggest she took it to Maria Hill and SHIELD, both because of regrets and not wanting to put her in further danger. When Kamala vowed to find Stark herself, Bruce reluctantly decided to help her finding him.
Deciding to use JARVIS, Banner took Kamala to the Olympia Archive to recover the AI's files. Whilst trying to open the vault, they were attacked by AIM security guards, causing him to transform into the Hulk. After dealing with them, they learned that AIM had set up a research facility on top of the archives. Engaging the nearby guards, Hulk provided a distraction for Khan to enter and rampaged through the facility, destroying much of it equipment inside. This alerted Tarleton to their presence, who activated the facility's self-destruct mechanism and authorized Blonsky, now mutated into a similar creature called "the Abomination", to attack them. After Kamala obtained JARVIS's data drive, Hulk stopped the Security Chief from attacking her, fighting him in the remains of the facility. Despite his opponent's enhanced strength and abilities, Hulk defeated Abomination, transforming back into Banner shortly afterwards. After viewing footage of Monica's cure experiments on a captive Inhuman, they left the archive and returned to the Chimera.
Upon their return, Bruce gave Kamala a room to stay in. As she openly considered taking the cure, he commended her for standing up to AIM and tried to dissuade her from taking it, implying that her powers were not treatable. Leaving her to settle in, Bruce began reactivating JARVIS on the War Table. With Kamala's help, they were able to properly activate him and ensured he received the necessary power. However, with the neural uplink damaged in the Chimera's crash, they decided to call Maria Hill and gain one from SHIELD. With the assets seized by AIM, they were directed to the Russian Tundra to retrieve one.
With the Quinjet reactivated, Hulk and Kamala travelled to the region, discovering that AIM had set up a post in the area. After deactivating a signal jammer, they were directed to a cache of SHIELD protocols hidden by Nick Fury, among which included a neural uplink. After defeating the AIM forces sent after them, Banner passed the protocols to Hill and installed the component, which Kamala checked out the HARM Room. After JARVIS tracked Stark to the Golden Acres estate, they travelled to meet him.
After gaining access to Golden Acres, Bruce and Kamala found Tony was living in exile. After Stark punched and confronted him on his testimony, Banner argued that he'd known the Terrigen reactor was unstable but had done nothing to ensure it was safe. Revealing that Kamala was an Inhuman to Tony, Bruce tried to convince him to take her in to continue her investigation, though this was quickly shot down by Stark. After Kamala revealed the footage to him, they learned that it was actually encrypted. Contacted by a Resistance contact, they learned that AIM had deployed forces to attack them, leading Banner to transform. Alongside Kamala and Stark, Hulk fought off the forces and stopped the attack after destroying the Warship, by throwing Stark's trailer into it.
Returning to the Chimera, Banner began repairing the doors whilst Tony assessed the damage. After losing contact with Kamala, he asked Stark to investigate, though learned that she was actually preparing a costume. After Stark collected components for a new Iron Man suit, they learned that they needed Intiator Cores to get the Chimera airborne. Whilst investigated a power signature in New York, Bruce agreed to investigate an another potential source in the Utah Badlands.
Taking Kamala with him, they discovered that an anti-Inhuman group called the Watchdogs were patrolling the area, leading to a fight between them. Searching out the remains of Dreadbots, they discovered that the components had been stripped bare. Shortly after a fight, the two were discovered by members of the Resistance, who took them to their base. Upon arrival, Bruce recognized their leader as Hank Pym and they investigated the base.
In return for the needed Initiator Cores, Bruce agreed to investigate an AIM facility and gain evidence of Inhuman experimentation. With Tony, Hulk and Kamala obtained the necessary data and learned about Pym's forced retirement from heroics, due to AIM's experimentation on him. After the mission, Bruce observed Pym's experiments with robotics before Kamala interrupted. As she tried to convince them to infiltrate the Black Mesa facility to rescue Inhuman prisoners, Bruce sided with Hank against the idea, believing that they needed to wait and that she wasn't ready.
Despite his strict orders not to do so, Kamala defied Bruce, leading to her capture. It's unknown whether he was the one to discover her actions or if he heard it from a Resistance member, likely Theo. After Black Widow infiltrated the facility and freed the Inhumans, Bruce arrived on the Chimera and oversaw the evacuation of the Inhumans. During it, he saw Monica being brought onboard and met Kamala, accepting her apology for disobeying him. Bruce also reunited with Natasha, having realized or learned that she was Tiny Dancer.
After the announcement of the AIM Experience, the Avengers decided to use it as the platform to expose AIM's experiments on Inhumans. Hoping to find the Adaptoids' creation labs, Banner volunteered to interrogate Monica and discover their location. With the other Avengers and Kamala watching, Bruce confronted Monica on AIM's experiments on Inhumans and the only advancing methods of hunting them. When she confronted him on his involvement with A-Day, he nearly transformed into the Hulk, though quickly composed himself. Bruce also realized that she had always been manipulative, using AIM, Tarleton and even himself to gain her own ends. Broken by the discovery, he called an end to the interrogation.
Moments after leaving, AIM attacked the Chimera, hoping to rescue Rappaccini and frame the Avengers for another tragedy. After transforming, Hulk confronted "a large contingent" of the machines. When several Dreadbots arrived during the fight, he and Iron Man fought against the machines. They were soon joined by Thor, who had been alerted to the battle by falling debris from it and helped defeat Tarleton's army. After they stopped the Chimera from crashing, Banner regained control and grouped with the Avengers at the War Table.
As an argument with Thor and the others erupted, Banner calmed them down to give the former their motives and reintroduced him to Kamala. As JARVIS finished decrypting the video, he watched with the other Avengers learn what really happened, discovering that Cap had told Tarleton to seal him in and destroyed the reactor himself. The first to process what had happened, Bruce began to place the blame one themselves again, leading to an argument with Tony. As it heated up, he revealed that he'd tested Kamala's DNA and discovered that they could not reverse her mutations, calling Inhumans the perfect disease. The argument ended when Bruce transformed into the Hulk and began a battle with Stark, leading many of the Chimera's occupants to flee.
Some time afterwards, Hulk heard Kamala call upon the Avengers to help investigate another lead. As she delivered a speech about why people looked up to them, he returned to help her and transformed back into Banner. After apologizing to her and making amends with Tony, Bruce listened as she suggested looking into the AIM satellite Ambrosia, suspecting that it was actually being used as an Inhuman prison. Agreeing that it would be the best place to study Inhumans due to zero-gravity conditions, he agreed to help investigate.
As Stark planned to restart Project Starboost, Bruce joined them in a plan to recover Pym Particles from AIM's Meridian facility. With Black Widow also joining them to help break them in, they worked with the Resistance to infiltrate the facility. Afterwards, Hulk helped protect the Ant Hill from a Warbot, ensuring that AIM would not breach its defenses. As Iron Man investigated Ambrosia, Hulk remained onboard the Chimera with the other Avengers. When he returned with Thor and an alive Captain America, Banner assembled around the War Table with the other Avengers. Together, they vowed to expose AIM's true motives.
Confronting MODOK
After the Avengers learned of Tarleton's plans to kill all Inhumans with Dark Terrigen, Hulk joined them in their attack on Tarleton's base in the San Francisco quarantine zone. Whilst Widow and Kamala infiltrated the facility, he, Rogers, Thor and Stark provided a distraction for the occupants to draw them away. Hulk mainly remained at Cap's side during fight, breaking down obstacles in their way and watching helping him fight against the forces sent after them. He also saw the transmission from Tarleton, who'd now renounced his name and begun calling himself MODOK. When Rogers was separated from the team, Hulk focused his efforts on defeating the more powerful machines and stopping the Warships from leaving the facility.
Eventually, reassembling with the rest of the team at the excavation site, Hulk engaged MODOK's forces with the rest of the team. However, when Kamala was overwhelmed whilst trying to evacuate captive Inhumans, Hulk came to help her fight them off. Together, they were able to rescue all the captives whilst the other Avengers fought either MODOK or his Kree Sentry. After MODOK took control of it, Hulk attempted to destroy it, but was quickly overwhelmed by its optic beams. These were powerful enough to render him unconscious, causing him to transform back to Banner. However, Kamala rescued them from being crushed and embiggened herself to defeat it.
After the fight, Bruce and the Avengers brought Kamala back to the Chimera, where they waited by her side until she regained consciousness. After the team finished complementing her, he asked for them to give them some privacy. After they left, Bruce thanked Kamala for giving him hope again and told her that he was proud of her. At her request, Bruce arranged for her to visit home and reunite with her father.
Reigning Supreme
Some time afterwards, Banner and the rest of the Avengers were contacted by Hill, who informed them of Monica's promotion to scientist supreme and AIM's ramp up in operations. Both Hulk and Kamala, now using the identity "Ms. Marvel", joined the team on missions to expose disrupt AIM's operations. At some point, Banner discovered AIM's plans to create more creatures similar to him and Abomination. Eventually stopping the plans, he and the other Avengers encountered Blonsky again, leading to the latter's defeat and arrest. After the mission, Bruce told Kamala that Hulk had only done so because they agreed on one thing: the wish not to see anyone else become like them. Some time later, he and the other Avengers agreed to induct officially induct her into their ranks.
Taking AIM
The Hulk joined the Avengers in investigating Tachyon Rifts created by AIM's experiments with time travel. During the mission, they encountered Kate Bishop and learned that Hawkeye was in Rappaccini's custody. Hulk was involved in several operations involved in rescuing their former teammate and stopping Monica's experiments. Banner later appeared in the debriefing with Barton, where he learned of the Kree Empire's upcoming invasion and Nick Fury's involvement in fighting them. When Barton fell unconscious due to an unknown Tachiyon effect from his time travelling experience, Thor immediately orders Bruce to get medical help for him quickly.

Notes
- In Marvel Comics, Bruce Banner / Hulk first appeared in The Incredible Hulk #1 (May 1962). Though often stopping villainous characters and plans, the Hulk's chaotic nature has brought him into conflict with many heroes. Likewise, he has been used as an asset, with Banner also "aiming" the Hulk on occasions. Hulk was also responsible for the Avengers' foundation after he was manipulated into fighting Thor by Loki. Though a founding member, mistrust within the team led to him leaving shortly afterwards. Banner has occasionally served as an ally to the Avengers while Hulk has been used as an asset by the team. Both were allowed to rejoin the team during the Avengers vs. X-Men event.
- Though Banner appears in cutscenes and Hulk can take part in missions for Taking AIM, neither character is voiced. However, both will speak with Kate during missions or on the Chimera.
